Revisiting Civilization Through the Lens of Taiwan’s Technology: Exploring Taiwan's Impact on the World
What would modern civilization look like without Taiwan’s technological contributions? Imagine a world where intelligence no longer flows effortlessly at your fingertips, where technology stagnates or even regresses, plunging the world into chaos and uncertainty.
At the 5th exhibition hall, “The Invisible Backbone of Global Technology”, of the Presidential Office’s permanent exhibition “the Ark of Democracy,” we have crafted a series of parallel universe scenarios through an interactive installation.
This artwork explores Taiwan's pivotal role in the tech industry and its profound impact on the evolution of global civilization. Notably, this marks the first time AI technology has been integrated into an exhibition at the Presidential Office, underscoring the vision of positioning Taiwan as a “Smart AI Island” and highlighting its innovative potential for the future.
Interactivity lies at the heart of this piece. Each choice made by the audience generates a unique parallel world—one without Taiwan’s technology. In these worlds, microchips fail to support advanced computing, global networks are severed, and everyday devices turn into obsolete scrap metal. Our system employs AI to simulate alternative histories, combining various factors and hypotheses to create imaginative and thought-provoking scenarios.
To ensure the generated content balances accuracy with creativity, our team collaborated closely with the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Presidential Office. We rigorously reviewed and refined the results of AI-generated outputs. Additionally, I developed a backend management system to streamline multi-department collaboration, ensuring smooth workflows and maintaining high content quality throughout the production process.
